Strange thing is that there is, imho, not one major biograph of Chopin (like Alan Walker for Liszt). "Chopin in Paris" is a pretty good introduction. "Chopin's Funeral" I enjoyed very much, and would be my first recommendation. It's not at all aca.   A beautifully written book, and one that, at least early on, pays as much attention to Chopin's art as his person. But the book bogs down in its final third. Chopin is always sick and moving from place to place and playing the piano very quietly. I'm becoming convinced that most of human life lacks a narrative arc/5.

Chopin was twenty-three years old and already famous as a composer and pianist in the salons of Paris, where he made the acquaintance of Franz uently, Chopin dedicated the entire opus to him – "à mon ami Franz Liszt" (to my friend, Franz Liszt).

Although several major pianists, notably Glenn Gould, have dismissed his music as excessively ornamental and trivial, Frédéric Chopin is definitely recognized as one of many and individual composers from the Romantic age.

The majority of his popularity rests on small-scale functions that in various other hands could have been simple salon trifles: waltzes, nocturnes. When approaching music as popular and as deservedly loved as Chopin’s waltzes, a musician must have something special to say for a new recording to make its mark.
